OLD CITY FLAGS - July 2021

Finding Inspiration at Every Turn In Bristol Old City

The Lamplighters were delighted to be comissioned by Bristol City Council to bring their collective skills in carnival arts and storytelling to create a set of flags on St Nicholas Street.

Celebrating the pedestrianisation of the Old City, this commission is part of a series of creative opportunities for people to explore the area, its history and unique community of businesses.

The flags are an original project conceived by The Lamplighters created using original artworks and documents from Bristol Museum & Art Gallery and Bristol Archives alongside original digital photography and cyanotype printing by Amy Peck and digital drawings by Dee Moxon and Stephanie Reeves.

We invite you to digitally or physically stroll through Bristol’s Old City and discover a tiny amount of its rich history which continues to be reflected in our modern city.

Click on each flag to explore the ideas behind the themes and images.
