Govandi Arts Festival Mumbai, February 2023

India UK Season of Culture - Third Party Badge_RGB.png

Lamplighter Arts Cic, Community Design Agency & Streets Reimagined collaborated to create Govandi Arts Festival as part of the India/UK Together, a Season Of Culture taking place in India from June 2022- March 2023. The season celebrated and strengthened the bilateral relationship, friendship and vibrant bonds between the two countries and also marked India's 75th Anniversary. This work was shared in the UK as part of Church Road Lantern Parade 2023 which made its first post covid reappearance to an audience of 6500 people.

Lamplighter Arts CIC really value our wonderful partners at the Community Design Agency in Mumbai, India who are lead placemaking through the arts and Govandi Arts Festival was our third collaboration with Streets Reimagined.

Lamplighter Arts CIC supported CDA as UK mentors as they shone a light on the talents of the youth arts scene and produced the first-ever Govandi Arts Festival and brought their lantern making skills to Mumbai.

Govandi Arts Festival is a celebration of arts and culture that thrives in marginalised neighbourhoods through sustained creative interventions in the form of mentoring programs, artist’s residencies, and art processions, culminating into a parallel lively community led arts festival in Mumbai, whose work is echoed Bristol. Made possible by an Arts Grant by the British Council, the Festival is brought together by Community Design Agency (India), Streets Reimagined (UK) and Lamplighter Arts CIC (UK) who bring their shared practice of using the arts to inspire placemaking and bring diverse communities together.
